I had the privilege to get to know a little bit about the “Sexy Adult Film Star” turned “Rockin’ Music Artist” Monica Mayhem on the set of the magazine cover shoot. Not only does Monica sing with an amazing voice but she also exhibits her musical talents by writing her own lyrics. It was a sight to see Monica heat up the Obscene photo shoot with her sizzling presence in front of the unforgiving lens! I found myself seriously debating my sexual preference as I watched her work the photo session!
I personally remained in an emotional state of bliss after this interview, as I am sure you will feel the same as you read on. This “Aussie Bombshell” is packed with sex appeal, talent and an Obscene determination, which ranks her amongst many “Pop Stars” of our time. Last but not least, Monica shared that she is preparing to tell all we need to know in a new book about her life and all the “Mayhem” that goes with it, so stay tuned for some juicy reading! Obscene: Now I obviously know you are an “Aussie bombshell”. At what age did you leave the great island of Australia? Monica: I left at age 22 to travel Europe and moved to London. Obscene: What was it like growing up in Australia? What made you decide to move? Monica: I had a pretty rough life growing up, which is all explained in detail in my book coming out “Absolute Mayhem - Confessions of an Aussie porn star”. Australia is such a beautiful place to live, it’s just that I had a lot of problems with family and I was also hanging out with the wrong crowd all the time. I moved because I decided I needed a change and wanted to see the world. I’m half Welsh, so I was easily able to live and work in London, which just seemed like the best option until I got sick of the cold weather and over-crowding. So I jumped on a plane to LA one night! I left it all behind, again.
Obscene: How is it now that you don’t live so close? What does your phone bill look like? Ha Ha Monica: Well, it’s always nice to go back home, it’s such a different way of life. I feel much less stress when I’m in Australia, everything is so much more laid back. As for the phone bill, I use Skype to talk to my friends and family, so it’s free and we use webcams. It’s almost like being there with them. Obscene: When did you decide you wanted to be involved in the music industry? What and where was your first performance? Monica: I started a band when I was 6 years old. I always wanted to be a singer. My dad was also a musician and recording engineer, so I guess it’s in my blood. I was in the school choir too, first performance at age 10. My first band performance wasn’t until a few years ago. I really never pursued music up until then because I did not have the confidence in my ability, until I realized that I do have the skills and shouldn’t care so much about what other people think anyway. Obscene: Not to get off topic, but I did happen to see you in the movie “Sex and the City”. What was it like to be in a major movie like that? And tell us about your character? I am sure all our male readers will enjoy this Q&A. Monica: It was so great! I had to audition a simulated sex scene on a chair, by myself! That’s how I got the part. Shooting was a lot of fun. Spent most of my days in hair and makeup, then sitting in my trailer. We shot in Malibu for 2 days. My co-star was super cool, Gilles Marini. We had great chemistry on set, which made for a hot scene! Obscene: Now back to the music. How would you describe your genre of music? Monica: It’s hard to categorize it really, but I would say rock with a little metal and punk influence. A lot of people compare it to A Perfect Circle and Tool, which I’m totally happy with, APC is one of my favorite bands.
Obscene: Do you write your own lyrics & where do you draw your inspiration from? Monica: I write all the lyrics and come up with the melodies. Then I have my guitarist work in the music. My inspiration comes from all the experiences I’ve had in my life. Life, love, anything really. And sometimes it’s not just about me and what I’m going through. I can put into words something that I see someone close to me is going through. Obscene: What are some of your other musical talents? Monica: I play a little guitar. But I really should practice more! Obscene: Did you always have a passion for music? When did you start pursuing that passion? Monica: I’ve always had a passion for music. Always singing and dancing since I can remember. I didn’t really pursue music up until a few years ago. But growing up I had singing lessons and voice lessons. I always tried to learn different instruments. I just never stuck with anything. I guess that’s the ADD side of my personality! Obscene: Any upcoming performances your fans & our readers should know about? Monica: None as of yet, we’re just working on new material right now. We are trying to finish this album already! But it’s going to take time with all our crazy schedules. I’ll always post our gigs up on our myspace calendar if anything does come up. Obscene: Where can they go to find your music? What’s your website that you would like to plug? Monica: Go to www.myspace.com/sweetavenge or www.ursession.com/sweetavenge and you can see alot more of me at www.monicamayhem.com.
